What can people expect during a counselling session with CJ Psychology?
At the first counselling session, you will be asked to complete some basic paperwork. This includes a client data sheet, a form giving authority to release information to relevant others (such as GPs or solicitors), information and consent form and a questionnaire assessing depression, anxiety and stress levels. This questionnaire will help provide the psychologist with a starting point to determine the type of counselling services you will require.
From here, your first session will focus on finding out more about you and at CJ Psychology our goal is to ensure you feel accepted and heard so we can build your trust. Your psychologist will develop a plan with you that focuses on your needs, and subsequent counselling sessions will build in strategies to help you achieve the outcomes you desire.
Do I need a referral and how much will an appointment cost?
CJ Psychology accepts self-referrals. However, without a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP you would not be eligible for the Medicare rebate. Speak to your GP about your eligibility for a MHTP. GPs usually like you to make a double appointment to discuss MHTPs. The cost of a session depends on the practitioner you see – for more information see our fees and rebates page.
Where are the CJ Psychology offices located?
The Geelong office is located at 138 Little Ryrie St, near the Geelong Base Hospital, opposite the Geelong Private Hospital car park.
Is there parking available during my counselling session?
Free parking is available via a laneway behind Little Ryrie St. Look for a pale grey brick fence.
How many counselling sessions will I need?
Our psychologists want to provide you with the most cost-effective counselling service possible. We would take the first few sessions to find out about your particular circumstances and advise on the course of action that might be necessary.
How long does a counselling session last?
Sessions are usually one-hour duration.
How can I pay for a session?
EFTPOS is available but you can also pay by cash. Bulk billing is available and Medicare and private health fund rebates are available on the spot.
